TIMES UNION HOME EXPO CELEBRATES 34TH YEAR IN THE CAPITAL REGION

 “New and Improved” expo to include home, food and garden experts; celebrity appearance; painting instruction; Battle of the Chefs, Pet Connection, farmer’s market, family fun zone, art gallery and more

ALBANY, N.Y.,– Hundreds of home, food and garden experts will set the blueprint for the 2014 home improvement season at the Capital Region’s largest and longest running consumer home show: the 34th annual Times Union Home Expo on February 7-9 at the Times Union Center and Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY.

The new and improved Times Union Home Expo has expanded its scope to include experts in building, remodeling, decorating, food and gardening in addition to a celebrity appearance, painting instruction, Battle of the Chefs, Pet Connection, farmer’s market, family fun zone, art gallery and more.

New for 2014, advance ticket vouchers are available online and provide a $2 discount to the Times Union Home Expo on Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 9. The 2014 Times Union Home Expo will encompass two buildings and feature more than 300 exhibits and a variety of seminars during its annual three-day run.

Exhibitors include suppliers of home goods, products and services, including: food and garden specialists, alternative energy and plumbing; banking and finance professionals; building contractors; carpet and flooring experts; furniture retailers; heating, cooling and solar specialists; insurance agents; interior designers; kitchen and bath professionals; landscaping and outdoor designers; pool and spa suppliers; real estate agents; remodeling, renovation and repair services; windows, doors, siding, insulation and foundation experts; custom home contractors; and home technology specialists.

HGTV Star brings design wisdom to Capital Region

One of the many exciting events at the Times Union Home Expo will be the appearance of HGTV and Food Network star Taniya Nayak, who will lead a seminar titled “Taniya’s Best Advice” beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 9. She will discuss smart designs for the entire home, affordable ideas, when to splurge, understanding space, unique ideas, lasting styles, the benefits of working with an interior designer and more.

Nayak’s knack for bringing rich textures and unexpected finishes together with practical, real-life functionality has made her a go-to expert for decorating programs on major networks including HGTV and Food Network. She is currently a part of major franchises on both networks, hosting the HGTV series House Hunters on Vacation and as a featured designer on Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible. Taniya is also the host of the new HGTV specials

Billon Dollar Block, which premiered in October 2012, and is a regular on HGTV mainstays like Designed to Sell, Showdown, Bang for Your Buck, and throughout HGTV.com.

In addition to the free seminar with Nayak, the 2014 Times Union Home Expo will provide visitors with access to other dynamic seminars, all geared toward providing the newest tips and trends on topics related to home design, improvement and development. All seminars are free with admission.

Paint & Sip art class and Battle of the Chefs sponsored by Earl B. Feiden

The Times Union Home Expo will also feature two exciting events sponsored by Earl B. Feiden: “A New Way to Paint the Town,” a painting instruction with an artist from Paint & Sip Studio on Friday, February 7, and a Battle of the Chefs on Saturday, February 8.

Forty lucky people will have the opportunity to work with an artist from Paint & Sip, who will instruct attendees to paint a one-of-a-kind painting. The first 40 attendees who visit the Earl B. Feiden booth on Friday, February 7 will receive entry to the painting class.

Local Chefs will compete at the Home Expo for the Capital Region’s top chef in Battle of the Chefs from 11 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 8.  The audience will have an opportunity to win gift certificates to local restaurants and to be a guest judge.

Pet Connection presented by Hannaford Supermarkets

Stop by the Time Union Home Expo on Sunday, February 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to see some cute furry friends or take one home. Presented by Hannaford Supermarkets, Pet Connection, one of the Capital Region’s most popular newscast segments hosted by News10 Chief Meteorologist Steve Caporizzo, will be at the Home Expo along with local Humane Societies.

Expo attendees will have the opportunity to adopt a dog or cat. All adoptees can pick up a bag of food for their new pet courtesy of a $25 gift card to Hannaford Supermarkets.

Taste of the Capital Region Farmer’s Market

More than two dozen local vendors will be featured at the Taste of the Capital Region Farmer’s Market at the Times Union Home Expo. Vendors will provide a range of foods, culinary products, jewelry and housewares at the Empire State Plaza during all Times Union Home Expo hours.

Artwork from Albany Center Gallery on Display

Albany Center Gallery will stage a sweeping art installation featuring the work of dozens of top local artists specifically chosen for the Times Union Home Expo audience in the exhibition hall in the Times Union Center.

The collection includes paintings, sculpture and photographs from traditional work to the most contemporary and cutting edge. All artwork will be available for purchase exclusively at the Times Union Home Expo.

A community-based organization, Albany Center Gallery is a non-profit art space located in downtown Albany dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art of the Mohawk Hudson region. 

Family Fun Zone

The Times Union Home Expo will host the popular Family Fun Zone at the Times Union Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 8 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 9. The family-friendly area will feature a variety of fun activities including face painting, art projects and a bouncy bounce. Balloonist Mr. Twisty will be at the Family Fun Zone from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. All activities are free with admission to the expo.

Hours, Admission and Shuttle Service

The 34th annual Times Union Home Expo will be held on Friday, February 7 from 3 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, February 8 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, February 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Children under 14 are free when accompanied by a paid adult.

CDTA will provide a complementary shuttle service between Times Union Home Expo site – the Times Union Center and Empire State Plaza. The shuttle will run on Saturday, February 8 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, February 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees who take advantage of the shuttle service will receive a $2 Dunkin Donuts rechargeable card while supplies last.
