Stuyvesant Plaza, the Capital Region’s premier open-air retail destination, will soon celebrate a new chapter as The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza relocates to a storefront between Sur La Table and Athleta – the very site where it first opened nearly four decades ago. This move not only intertwines the bookstore’s storied past with its future but also places it in closer connection to The Lawn, the Plaza’s custom greenspace designed for outdoor activities and community gatherings.
The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, an independently owned bookstore, first opened its doors at the plaza in 1975. A popular plaza destination since that time, the shop carries a variety of genres in hardcover and paperback that appeal to readers of all ages and routinely conducts book-signings, kids’ activities and seasonal events.
“In our 50-year tenure with Stuyvesant Plaza, we have moved twice,” said The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza owner, Susan Novotny. “Third time will be a charm. This new location was The Book House’s home during the 1980’s when we went through a big growth spurt. The Lawn at our doorstep will be a big plus for book-signings and will add another dimension to our events.”
