RoAnn M. Destito, New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner, today announced that three-time U.S. champion figure skater Johnny Weir will make a special appearance at the Empire State Plaza ice rink from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, presented by Hannaford Supermarkets.
Johnny Weir — a three-time U.S. champion, two-time Olympian, and World medalist — is one of the superstars of figure skating and a pop-culture icon. Fans all over the globe love his elegant yet edgy style both on and off the ice. Brilliantly talented, always entertaining, and embraced by a following that spans the globe, Weir continues to win the hearts of new fans with every appearance.
Weir’s appearance will take place at the start of the traditional holiday school break. Children and families skate free daily and enjoy free skate rentals on Fridays, courtesy of Hannaford Supermarkets.

- 11-11:15 a.m. – Skating demonstration by Johnny Weir
- 11:15 a.m. – noon – Public skating with Johnny Weir
- Noon-1 p.m. – Meet, get an autograph, and have your picture taken with Johnny Weir
General Rink Information
- Hours: Every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather dependent.
- Cost to Skate: Free
- Skate Rental: $3 for children younger than 12 and $4 for everyone 12 and up. Skate rentals will be available whenever the rink is open. A photo ID is required to rent skates.
