SYRACUSE, N.Y.  – The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation today announced that $10,000 is being awarded to Food Bank of Central New York, solidifying the Foundation’s commitment to bringing the simple joys of childhood to kids in Central New York battling hunger or illness. This grant will help support Food Bank of Central New York’s backpack program, which distributes bags of healthy, nonperishable and easy-to-prepare food to participating students each week during the school year.

Additionally, Dunkin’ announced a donation of nearly 300 pounds of coffee to Food Bank of Central New York ahead of National Coffee Day on Friday, Sept. 29. The coffee donation stems from the “Goals for Coffee” initiative between Dunkin’ and the Syracuse Crunch, in which Dunkin’ pledged to donate one pound of coffee for every goal scored at home by the Syracuse Crunch during the 2022-’23 hockey season. The total number of goals scored, and therefore pounds donated, equaled 252.

“Food Bank of Central New York is thrilled to once again partner with Dunkin’ and the Syracuse Crunch,” said Food Bank of Central New York Chief Development Officer Lynn Hy. “Today’s donation of 252 pounds of coffee will be distributed to our food program partners for individuals and families experiencing hunger. In addition, the $10,000 grant from the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation will assist us in distributing food to school-age children for weekend meals.”

“The Syracuse Crunch are proud to partner with Dunkin’ to help support Food Bank of Central New York through the Goals for Charity program,” said Syracuse Crunch Chief Operating Officer Jim Sarosy. “The Food Bank is a wonderful organization for local residents in need and we’re grateful that Dunkin’ allows us to play a role in providing a donation of 252 pounds of coffee.”

“We are thrilled to be able to provide grants to amazing nonprofits that share the same vision of the Joy in Childhood Foundation: to bring joy to kids where they need it most. The Dunkin’ franchisees are committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and it is an honor to be able to support children at Food Bank of Central New York and make their days a little brighter,” said Dunkin’ Field Marketing Manager Levi Pascher. “Additionally, we are excited to celebrate National Coffee Day by contributing to the tremendous efforts of Food Bank of Central New York. It is a vital community organization and we are proud to assist them by donating Dunkin’s signature coffee in partnership with the Syracuse Crunch.”

Food Bank of Central New York serves as the main food distribution hub for hundreds of partner agencies that comprise the emergency food network in its eleven-county service region across Central and Northern New York. The Food Bank provides more than 22.5 million pounds of food – the equivalent of 18.7 million meals – to hungry families, children and elderly every year.

Grant funding from the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation will help charities expand their impact. Nationally, these grants will fuel a variety of programs for kids battling hunger including weekend backpack programs, mobile and school pantry programs, as well as after school meals so that kids have access to food outside of school. Funds will also support programming for kids battling illness including specialized camps, sensory rooms, and art and music therapy, among other initiatives. These programs provide joyful experiences and environments for pediatric patients and their families.

These grants are part of a commitment by the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, Dunkin’ and its franchisees to bring the simple joys of childhood to kids facing hunger or illness. Since its inception in 2006, the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation has granted more than $45 million to national and local nonprofits.
