Members of the local community and Dunkin’ fans alike poured into Dunkin’s newly remodeled next generation restaurant at 1067 Easton Avenue in Somerset on Wednesday, July 15, as part of its grand reopening celebration.
Dunkin’ franchisee Mohamed Elsharkawy of Somerset Donuts Inc. commemorated the occasion with a $3,000 donation to the Franklin Food Bank, in conjunction with the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation. The mission of the Franklin Food Bank is to support the food needs of the local community in Somerset County and surrounding areas in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.
“The grand reopening of the Somerset Dunkin’ is about so much more than donuts and coffee — it’s a celebration of community,” said Franklin Food Bank Executive Director Derek Smith. “I see the same entrepreneurial spirit of resilience and grit in Mohamed Elsharkawy and his family that we see in our staff, volunteers and partners at the food bank every single day. Gifts like this one remind us that we can’t close the hunger gap alone. I can’t stress enough how important public and private partnerships are to help close that gap here in Franklin, and in every town across New Jersey. We’re deeply grateful to Mohamed and the entire Dunkin’ family for standing with us.”
The event featured the first 100 people in line at 9 a.m. receiving a free medium Dunkin’ Refresher for 30 days, while others spun the Dunkin’ prize wheel for free Dunkin’ merchandise and enjoyed a complimentary Dunkin’ photobooth.
Franklin Township Mayor Phil Kramer; Town Councilman Ram Anbarasan; Somerset County Board of County Commissioners Director Shanel Robinson; Somerset County Commissioner Elizabeth Graner; New Jersey Assemblyman Joe Danielsen; and members of the Franklin Township Police Department joined the celebration and participated in a commemorative ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The newly remodeled, 2,000 square-foot Dunkin’ employs 25 crew members and is open 24 hours per day.
