COLLEGE DAY AT SARATOGA RACE COURSE, PRESENTED BY TOYOTA

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – College students returned to their favorite course during the seventh annual College Day, presented by Toyota, at Saratoga Race Course on Wednesday, July 29. All college students who pre-registered at www.saratogacollegeday.com received free grandstand admission, courtesy of the New York Racing Association (NYRA).

NYRA awarded a total of $10,000 in academic scholarships throughout the day, with one college student enrolled in the upcoming academic year receiving one of ten $1,000 scholars hips following each race on the day’s card. Toyota and Hannoush Jewelers presented two of the day’s scholarships.

“I’m so ecstatic and appreciative of this scholarship,” said Isabel Soloaga, 18, of Vacaville, CA, who will begin her first year of studies at the University of California, Berkeley in the fall. “It will be a huge help next year.”

Additional scholarships awarded on College Day and scholarship-related highlights included:

  • The New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. will presented the $5,000 Gerald A. Nielsen, Sr. New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. Scholarship to Tate Morris and the $5,000 Debby Malloy Winkler New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. Scholarship to Courtney O’Connell. Both students are enrolled in an equine program at a New York State school.

 

  • The New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund awarded six scholarships of $3,000 each for a total of $18,000 to students who will be pursuing careers in New York State’s thoroughbred racing or breeding industries.

Students were also invited to the Saratoga Pavilion to enjoy a variety of free fun activities including a wrecking ball inflatable, giant jenga game and speed pitch baseball, amongst other items. Prize packages were awarded to activity winners, including special items from Hannoush Jewelers and Flight Trampoline Park.
