STUYVESANT PLAZA TO WAIVE RENT ON SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS

Unprecedented move designed to demonstrate unwavering support and commitment to businesses of all sizes during coronavirus crisis

ALBANY, N.Y. – Stuyvesant Plaza, the Capital Region’s premier lifestyle shopping center for more than 60 years, today announced that it will waive rent payments for all retail and restaurant tenants for a two-week period effective Friday, March 20.

This policy applies to the shopping center’s 60 retail tenants, including all small businesses and restaurants, regional and national companies.

The announcement comes in response to the unforeseen challenges and losses encountered by businesses as a result of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) global health pandemic.

“Our success as a shopping plaza, which dates back more than half a century, is predicated on the success of our tenants. During this unprecedented time of crisis, it is our responsibility to do all that we can to support our retail and restaurant partners and provide them with some relief while we continue to work through these challenges together,” said Stuyvesant Plaza President Ed Swyer. “I am tremendously proud of the innovation our tenants are showing to continue to operate and serve the community, and I encourage everyone to do whatever they can to support their neighborhood businesses. By doing so, we will emerge from this crisis stronger than ever.”

Since opening in 1959 with 18 tenants, Stuyvesant Plaza has grown more than threefold to become the Capital Region’s premier lifestyle shopping center. The Plaza, which opened just 12 years after the nation’s first outdoor shopping center in Los Angeles, is currently home to nearly 60 shops and restaurants.

Stuyvesant Plaza is closely monitoring the latest developments related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and is taking necessary precautions to protect shoppers at this time.

In addition to following guidelines and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and International Council of Shopping Centers, Stuyvesant Plaza is enhancing the daily cleaning of all spaces, including an amplified focus on high-touch surfaces, handles and restrooms with a CDC-approved disinfectant spray.

Stuyvesant Plaza’s current published operating hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m.

Hours for individual shops and restaurants will vary during this time while several restaurants will offer takeout and delivery. Dine-in will be closed in accordance with state regulations. Shoppers are encouraged to contact each store or restaurant for details.
