Fans who bring three non-perishable food items to the Siena men’s basketball game on January 7 will receive two free tickets to a future game
ALBANY, N.Y. – Hannaford Supermarkets and Siena Athletics will team up to support hunger relief efforts with a special “Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger Night” on Saturday, January 7 at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. The food drive will take place during the men’s home game against Saint Peter’s, which begins at 7 p.m.
Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. Monetary donations will also be accepted. The collection will take place on the Times Union Center concourse outside sections 104 and 105.
Fans who donate at least three non-perishable items will receive a voucher for two free tickets to a future Siena men’s basketball regular season home game for the 2016-’17 season. The voucher may be redeemed for tickets at the Times Union Center Box Office.
The food drive coincides with a critical time of need for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, which traditionally experiences a significant decrease in donations following the generosity of the holiday season.
“Hannaford is committed to fighting hunger within the communities we serve, and we are honored to partner with Siena Athletics on this initiative. We hope this effort will help to replenish the Food Bank’s supply and enable it to provide for families well into the New Year,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Brian Fabre. “We encourage fans to join us for a night of great college basketball action on the court while supporting the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.”
“We hope the community will turn out in great numbers to help support this worthwhile cause,” said Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “We are thrilled to work with Hannaford on this initiative and we hope to continue our partnership in support of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York long into the future.”
The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that collects donated food from the food industry and distributes it to nearly 1,000 charitable agencies feeding the hungry in 23 counties of northeastern New York. The food provided by the Regional Food Bank helps to feed over 40,000 people each week. The Regional Food Bank is a member of Feeding America. The organization is supported by foundations, private contributions and fundraising events.
“We are excited to work with Siena Athletics and Hannaford Supermarkets on this food and money collection for the Regional Food Bank. Siena fans are always very generous to the Food Bank and we look forward to meeting them and being part of the night’s activities,” said Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York Executive Director Mark Quandt. “We thank Hannaford and Siena for everything they do throughout the year to assist the Food Bank and the hungry people we serve.”
The Siena men’s basketball team continues its quest for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship when the Saints host Saint Peter’s on Saturday, January 7 at the Times Union Center at 7 p.m. Tickets to the game can be purchased online through Ticketmaster (service fees apply) or in-person at the Times Union Center Box Office. For additional ticket information, contact the Siena Fan Relations Management Center at (518) 487-2202, online at sienasaints.com/tickets, by e-mail at [email protected], or by stopping by the fan relations office located on the second floor atrium at the Times Union Center Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger campaign is an extension of the work that local Hannaford stores and distribution centers engage in daily. Hannaford donated more than 20 million pounds of rescued food to Northeast hunger relief in 2015.
