SARATOGA HIGHLIGHTS: WEEK 6

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 17

Jonathan Sheppard and NYSSS Cab Calloway Division:

The Grade 1, $150,000 Jonathan Sheppard, a steeplechase for 4-year-olds and up traveling 2 3/8 miles over the hurdles, is named for the Hall of Fame trainer who won at least one race at Saratoga each year from 1968 to 2015. Wednesday’s card also features the $150,000 Cab Calloway division of the New York Stallion Stakes Series, a one-mile inner turf test for eligible state-sired sophomores.

Runhappy Travers Day Tickets:

Fans can save $5 on general admission tickets for Runhappy Travers Day when they purchase in advance at NYRA.com/Travers or at the Saratoga Race Course Box Office located at Gate A. Grandstand admission for Runhappy Travers Day is $20 with advance purchase; $25 on the day of the event. Gates open at 7 a.m. on Runhappy Travers Day with first post scheduled for 11:35 a.m.

New York Race Track Chaplaincy Fundraising Brunch:

The New York Race Track Chaplaincy will host its annual fundraising brunch at Saratoga National Golf Club. The honoree is NYRA TV Analyst and Handicapper Andy Serling. The New York Race Track Chaplaincy is an organization devoted to serving the community of stable workers and their families who make thoroughbred racing possible at Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack and Saratoga Race Course. Tickets are on sale and can be obtained online by visiting RTCANY.org or by calling 516-216-5196.

Saratoga Live:

Community Outreach Booth:

The Fleet Reserve Association will lead the racing week at the Community Outreach Booth. The non-profit represents the interests of enlisted U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps veterans and active-duty personnel.

Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage:

The Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage will host live music from Red Haired Strangers.

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 18

NYSSS Statue of Liberty Division:

The feature is the $150,000 NYSSS Statue of Liberty, a one-mile test on the turf for eligible New York-sired sophomore fillies.

Taste NY Pavilion:

The Taste NY Pavilion, located inside Gate A at the Top of the Stretch, features New York craft beer, cider, wine and spirits products, including offerings from: Bolton Landing Brewing Company, Brooklyn Brewery, Common Roots Brewing Company, Druthers Brewing Co., Frog Alley Brewing Co., Northway Brewing Company, Paradox Brewery, Nine Pin Cider Works, Brotherhood Winery and Old Tavern Farm Winery, and spirits from Cooperstown Distillery, Great Jones and Pick Six Vodka. It is open from noon until 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and from noon until 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Saratoga Low Roller Contest:

Horseplayers can enjoy the Saratoga Low Roller Contest every Thursday and Sunday throughout the summer meet at the Spa. Players can pre-register outside the Miller Time Fourstardave Sports Bar on contest days. There is a $40 buy-in, of which $30 will go to the players’ bankroll and $10 to the prize pool. Winners will also receive a T-shirt in addition to the cash prize.

Community Outreach Booth:

NYRA will host the New York Council on Problem Gambling, which builds public awareness about problem and disordered gambling by advocating for support services and treatment.

Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage:

The Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage will host live music from Garland Nelson Band.

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 19

Skidmore and Summer Colony:

The $150,000 Skidmore, a 5 1/2-furlong Mellon turf sprint for juveniles at Saratoga Race Course, is slated as Race 10 on Friday’s 10-race program, which also features the $135,000 Summer Colony for older fillies and mares going nine furlongs.

Giveaway: Long-Sleeve T-Shirt presented by FOX Sports:

Fans will enjoy the second premium giveaway of the 2022 season: a long-sleeve white T-shirt with red sleeves, emblazoned with the Saratoga logo on the chest and NYRA Bets and FOX Sports logos on each sleeve. Two adult sizes will be available: medium and extra-large. All fans with paid admission will receive a coupon for the giveaway, while supplies last. Season ticket and season pass holders are not guaranteed a giveaway. Fans must present a coupon at designated locations on track to receive the complimentary item.

Belvedere and Old Tavern Farm Samplings:

Guests 21 and older can enjoy complimentary samples of Belvedere Vodka and Old Tavern Farm Winery’s signature Rosé, vinted and canned in Saratoga Springs, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., while supplies last.

Community Outreach Booth:

The Saratoga Automobile Museum preserves, interprets and exhibits automobiles and automotive artifacts to educate the general public, students and enthusiasts about the role of the automobile.

Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage:

The Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage will host live music from The Rodeo Barons.

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 20

Alabama, Lake Placid and Smart N Fancy:

Saturday’s Grade 1, $600,000 Alabama for sophomore fillies traveling the classic distance of 10 furlongs is expected to feature Nest, coming off her dominating performance in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks and second-place finish in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes. The afternoon also includes a pair of turf races: the Grade 2, $200,000 Lake Placid for sophomore fillies at two turns and the $150,000 Smart N Fancy for older fillies and mares sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs.

Trifecta of Tastings:

Fans can enjoy complimentary samples of Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey, Twisted Tea and Nine Pin Hard Cider. Samples will be available for guests 21 and older from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., while supplies last.

Community Outreach Booth:

NYRA will host the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, which is committed to the aftercare of thoroughbred horses that are no longer able to compete on the racetrack.

Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage:

The Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage will host live music from Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra.
 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 21

Bolton Landing:

The racing week wraps up with the $150,000 Bolton Landing for juvenile fillies, a 5 1/2-furlong sprint on the turf.

Brunch at The Rail at the 1863 Club:

Fans are invited to enjoy a brunch buffet while experiencing The Rail at the 1863 Club, the venue’s first-floor banquet space. Tickets are $95 and include admission, a table seat for the day, brunch buffet, soft drinks, two mimosa or Bloody Mary drink tickets, Post Parade, tax and gratuity. Reservations are available by calling the NYRA Box Office at 844-NYRA-TIX or online at Ticketmaster.com.

Berkshire Bank Family Sundays:

The popular family-friendly weekly event features a wide variety of free activities, games, attractions and educational experiences from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Berkshire Bank Family Zone, located inside Gate A near the Saratoga Race Course Box Office.

Community Outreach Booth:

Rounding out this week is the Disabled American Veterans of Troy, which is dedicated to empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity.

Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage:

The Purdy’s Summer Concert Stage will host live music from The Bluz House Rockers.
