“Fire and Ice” Chili, Chowder and Soup Tasting; New York Marketplace to Highlight New Entertainment Options at Albany Ski & Snowboard Expo

Free lift tickets, giveaways, online ticket discounts and attractions to enrich the family-friendly three-day winter sports preview

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Albany Ski & Snowboard Expo, presented by Alpin Haus, today announced its lineup of entertainment options, including two new offerings: the “Fire and Ice” chili, chowder and soup tasting; and the New York Marketplace, featuring products made exclusively in New York State.

The Albany Ski & Snowboard Expo, one of the nation’s longest-running consumer snow and travel shows, will mark 52 years on Friday, November 1 through Sunday, November 3 at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, N.Y. Returning features include discount Expo tickets available online, and the popular lift ticket giveaway: 800 guests will receive free lift tickets and 400 will receive buy one, get one free lift tickets during the three-day winter sports extravaganza.

Fire and Ice chili, chowder and soup tasting; New York Marketplace

“Fire and Ice” will provide show attendees a chance to taste traditional cold weather dishes such as chili, chowder and soup and vote for their favorite on Saturday, November 2 from noon to 4 p.m. Participating local and regional restaurants, including Coleman Brook Tavern at Okemo Mountain, Big Moose Inn, Uncle Marty’s Adirondack Grill, D-Line Pub, El Loco Mexican Café, Local Flavor Café and Wine & Roses, will offer 3 oz. samples for $1 each. All proceeds from the tasting will benefit the Times Union Hope Fund.

The New York Marketplace will welcome guests during all three days of the expo and will offer for sale a variety of products made exclusively in the Empire State, including baked goods, jams, nut butters, maple syrup, crackers and beef jerky. Participating vendors include Dutch Desserts of Kinderhook; Mountain Wind Farm of Berne; Peanut Principle of Cohoes; Pixie’s Preserves of Waterford; Saratoga Crackers of Saratoga Springs; Saratoga Sweets of Saratoga Springs; and Joe’s Jerky of Sherrill.

“Ski VT” and “Ski NY Lift Ticket” Giveaway

Throughout the weekend, the Albany Ski & Snowboard Expo will give a “lift” to hundreds of winter sports fans looking for a cost-effective way to hit the slopes.

The first 400 guests attending the expo on Friday evening will receive buy-one, get-one free lift tickets to three of Vermont’s most popular mountains, including Bromley, Magic and Mount Snow, with full-paid admission or advance ticket purchase.

Also, the first 400 guests attending the expo on Saturday and the first 400 guests on Sunday will receive free lift tickets to mountains in New York provided by I Ski NY with full-paid admission or advance ticket purchase. Participating mountains include Belleayre Mountain, Catamount, Gore Mountain, Greek Peek, Hunter Mountain, Oak Mountain, Plattekill Mountain, West Mountain, Whiteface Mountain and Windham Mountain.

Jackson Hole Ski Get-Away

Expo visitors can enter to win a Ski Get-Away to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort by “liking” the Albany Ski & Snowboard Expo and News10 on Facebook beginning October 21 through November 3. The ski get-away package includes roundtrip airfare from Albany to Jackson Hole for two; seven nights lodging for two at the Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, WY; and two, five-day lift tickets at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village. Hannaford Supermarkets Family Fun Zone

Hannaford Supermarkets will host the popular Hannaford Family Fun Zone on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3. The family-friendly area will feature a variety of fun activities for young winter sports fans, including a sports activity provided by Afrim’s Sports; crafts provided by Tiny Tots Tea Room; an art activity provided by Art on Tap; a healthy Jeopardy game provided by Ferguson Family Chiropractic; and special activities provided by Hannaford Supermarkets. All activities are free with paid admission to the expo.

52nd annual Albany Ski & Snowboard Expo

The Albany Ski & Snowboard Expo, presented by Alpin Haus, will provide winter sports enthusiasts an early look at must-have equipment, fashion and travel for the 2013-14 season from the industry’s leading retailers, manufacturers, mountains and resorts from throughout the Northeast, West and Canada.

In addition to Alpin Haus, the expo will feature gear, equipment and apparel from Potter Brothers Ski & Snowboard Shops and Steiner’s Sports.

Attendees can save $2 on admission at the expo by picking up a discount coupon at Dunkin’ Donuts. The coupons are available at over 70 participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants throughout the Capital Region. Coupons cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion.

Patrons can save 30 percent on admission by purchasing advance discount tickets online. Advance discount tickets are available for $7 at www.albanyskiandsnowboardexpo.com. Admission at the door is $10. Children 10 and under accompanied by an adult will be admitted free.
