HANNAFORD PRESENTS HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION

TOÑO ROSARIO TO HEADLINE NEW YORK STATE’S HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION PRESENTED BY HANNAFORD SUPERMARKETS ON SEPTEMBER 14

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced the lineup for the New York State Hispanic Heritage Celebration presented by Hannaford Supermarkets, which will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.

“New York State’s Hispanic Heritage Celebration is the perfect cultural event to conclude this year’s Summer At The Plaza series,” Commissioner Destito said. “We at OGS want to thank Hannaford Supermarkets for partnering with us to sponsor this annual free festival, and Governor Cuomo and I hope everyone will have a good time dancing to some great salsa and merengue music as we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month.”

“Hannaford is proud to once again partner with the New York State Office of General Services to make possible this tremendous celebration of Latino culture and heritage,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Molly Tarleton. “The Hannaford Hispanic Heritage Celebration allows the Capital Region to honor National Hispanic Heritage Month with an energetic outdoor festival designed to highlight the traditions of the Hispanic community.”

Headlining the festival, singer and composer Toño Rosario, the one-time leader of the merengue band Los Hermanos Rosario, will take the stage at 6:45 p.m. A native of the Dominican Republic, the Grammy-nominated Rosario began his solo career in the 1990s and saw four of his albums go gold.

In addition to the music, visitors to the Empire State Plaza will be able to enjoy delicious food and beverages throughout the event.

The festival will kick off at 3 p.m. with entertainment by local favorite Latin DJ Boy Boy, followed at 4 p.m. with a performance by Grupo Encanto.

Making his return to the Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Toby Rivera, the father of urban bachata music, is scheduled to begin playing at 5:15 p.m.

Free parking will be available in the Cathedral lot off Madison Avenue and in the East Garage, located on the corners of Madison Avenue, Eagle Street, and Philip Street. The fee for parking under the Plaza in the V-lot will be $5.

No alcoholic beverages, coolers (defined as rigid insulated containers), or glass containers of any kind; animals or pets (excludes ADA-defined service animals) will be allowed. Alcohol will be served by vendors to adults with proper identification.

Additional sponsors of the event include Saranac Brewery, McDonald’s Co-Op of the Capital Region, New York’s 529 College Savings Program, Fidelis Care, NYSUT, CBS 6, Albany.com, Jamz 96.3, Metroland, and Saratoga Water
