Chief of Abington Police Department and Ellie Fund volunteer selected as Hannaford Health Hero
Hanson resident recognized for commitment to promoting health and wellness
NEEDHAM, Massachusetts – A volunteer with the Ellie Fund has been selected by Hannaford Supermarkets as a “Hannaford Health Hero” for his dedication to fighting breast cancer and easing its effect on patients and families throughout the Bay State.
David Majenski, 45, of Hanson, who also serves as Chief of Police for the Abington Police Department, has been a volunteer with the Ellie Fund’s Dish and Deliver program since 2011. After being served by the program himself when a close family member was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, he now drives across the state each month to deliver nutritiously prepared meals to patients and families dealing with the disease.
Majenski is the ninth Bay State resident to be recognized this year by Hannaford Supermarkets in conjunction with the Hannaford Health Hero program. Now in its second year, the program will recognize the work of 12 volunteers who inspire others within the community to make healthy choices for life on behalf of non-profit organizations.
“At Hannaford, we strongly believe in promoting health and wellness within the communities we serve,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Molly Tarleton. “We are thrilled to honor David as a Hannaford Health Hero and commend the Ellie Fund for its commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles for Massachusetts residents.”
In recognition of the organization’s commitment to health and wellness, the Ellie Fund will receive a $250 Hannaford gift card. Majenski will also receive a $50 Hannaford gift card.
Majenski was nominated by Gail Fine, director of patient services for the Ellie Fund, a Needham-based non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of women undergoing breast cancer treatment in Massachusetts and their families.
In the nomination, Fine wrote, “David is the Ellie Fund’s most devoted and committed Dish and Deliver volunteer. He will go anywhere no matter the weather or distance and has never missed a delivery day. David understands that eating nutritious and delicious meals helps ensure patients’ strength to fight their disease and withstand treatment.”
