Cardona’s Market today introduced its newest celebrity sandwich named for U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team Captain and Capital Region native Claire Hutton.
The family-owned Italian market and catering company unveiled “The Hutton” in honor of the 20-year-old professional soccer star, who was raised in nearby Bethlehem and attended Bethlehem Central High School before beginning her professional career at the age of 17.
Hutton joined Cardona’s Market representatives to take part in a ceremonial first bite at Cardona’s Latham Market on Thursday afternoon, which coincided with an hour-long meet-and-greet with fans.
“I am truly honored that Cardona’s chose to partner with me for a celebrity sandwich that will help raise money for local youth soccer initiatives,” said Hutton. “Growing up in the Capital Region, Cardona’s Albany market has always been a favorite family destination. I am thrilled to partner with them to give back in such a meaningful and delicious way.”
Developed in collaboration with Hutton and based on one of her favorite sandwiches, the eponymously named sandwich features roast beef, ham and Swiss cheese topped with horseradish mayo, spring mix, tomato and house made citrus and serrano jam, served hot on a freshly toasted pretzel bun.
Aptly named, “The Hutton”, the limited-time offering will be the featured sandwich this summer at all three Cardona’s Market locations beginning on Thursday, June 18.
“Claire Hutton is one of the best young athletes this area has ever produced, and is an outstanding role model and ambassador for both the Capital Region and young women who aspire every day to pursue their dreams,” said Cardona’s Co-Owner and Executive Chef Robert Cardona, Jr. “We are incredibly proud of what Claire has accomplished at such a young age and look forward to seeing her continue to emerge on the national and international stage in representing United States women’s soccer. We encourage all her fans and supporters to stop in to try the sandwich that bears her name and features her favorite flavors.”
The launch of “The Hutton” also kicked off a collection drive of new and gently used soccer equipment to benefit the Albany Soccer Club at the request of the Bethlehem native and soccer prodigy. Cardona’s will continue to accept equipment donations at all three of its market locations through Sunday, June 21.
Continuing with its mission and tradition of supporting local charities from its celebrity sandwiches, Cardona’s will earmark partial proceeds from sales of “The Hutton” to the Albany Soccer Club, the designated beneficiary selected by Hutton and her family.
Established in 1996, the Albany Soccer Club provides youth soccer programming for local children with the mission to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of young people through soccer, including participation in tournaments across New York State.
A nationally recognized standout from nearby Bethlehem Central High School, Hutton was selected for the U.S. Women’s National Team in February 2025 and earlier this year was named one of the team’s youngest captains ever at age 20. Ranked by ESPN as the ninth-best women’s soccer player in the world under 21, Hutton began her professional playing career three years ago and competes for the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) Bay FC based in San Jose, CA.
Cardona’s Market features three convenient locations at 340 Delaware Avenue in Albany; 9 Cobbee Road in Latham; and 222 Washington Street in Saratoga Springs. The Albany and Latham markets are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the Saratoga market is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. All three locations are open Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
