Cardona’s Market – the family-owned specialty foods market and catering company serving the Capital Region since 1945 – will celebrate National Meatball Day with the return of a one-day specialty sandwich and commemorate St. Patrick’s Day with the debut of a limited-time corned beef and pastrami creation.
On Sunday, March 9, meatball lovers can ring in National Meatball Day by feasting on the “Cardona’s Meatball Italiano”.
This unique spin on the conventional “Meatball Parm” features a trio of Cardona’s traditional meatballs topped with tasty homemade sauces representing the three colors of the Italian flag: pesto, alfredo and marinara, served on a toasted roll.
“This year’s National Meatball Day is not only a celebration of one of our favorite and most popular food offerings, but also harkens back to our Italian roots,” said Cardona’s Market Co-Owner and Executive Chef Robert Cardona, Jr. “This sandwich was such a popular seller last year, we just had to bring it back again for the one and only National Meatball Day.”
New this year for St. Patrick’s Day, Cardona’s will unveil the “Pally O’Malley” sandwich, which celebrates Irish tradition with an Italian twist. Served hot on a fresh toasted pretzel bun, the recipe combines hot house braised corned beef and hot lightly sauteed pastrami topped with horseradish dijonnaise, caramelized onions and fennel, house pickles and Swiss cheese.
“We are thrilled to debut this non-traditional sandwich that celebrates St. Patrick’s Day Italian style,” Cardona said. “We received many requests for this type of creation, so we’re excited to offer our premier St. Patrick’s Day celebratory offering.”
Cardona’s is also featuring a St. Patrick’s Day catering package with pre-orders due by Sunday, March 15. For $150, guests can enjoy a menu feeding six to eight people that includes braised short-rib croquettes; house-made whole grain mustard; cucumber salad; corned beef with cabbage over salt potatoes and carrots; house-made Irish soda bread with whipped herb butter; and six Bailey’s Irish cupcakes.
A la carte orders of Irish soda bread and Bailey’s Irish cupcakes are available from March 14-17 and must be placed by noon the previous day.
Orders may be placed by visiting catering.cardonasmarket.com or by contacting Cardona’s Catering Manager Jessica Evans at [email protected] or (518) 785-7480 ext. 1.
