Cardona’s launches sandwich fundraiser in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Cardona’s Market, the family-owned Italian specialty grocer and caterer, today launched the “Chicken Cordon Pink,” a new crispy chicken breast sandwich, in recognition of breast cancer awareness month, which is annually observed in October. The “Chicken Cordon Pink” is a spin on the classic ‘Chicken Cordon Bleu’ recipe and will be available for a limited time only at Cardona’s market locations through Saturday, Oct. 31.

Several breast cancer survivors and representatives from the American Cancer Society appeared at Cardona’s Market in Latham on Tuesday afternoon for a ceremonial First Bite of the Chicken Cordon Pink. Following this event, Cardona’s attended the Making Strides of Albany Kickoff Celebration in Latham, bringing a 6-foot “Chicken Cordon Pink” party sub for guests to enjoy their own celebratory first bites.

The sandwich features: Cardona’s Chicken cutlet, shaved maple-glazed ham, sliced Gruyere, whole grain Dijonnaise and fresh spinach served on a classic sub roll. A portion of proceeds from all sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society and Making Strides of Albany.

“Raising awareness and supporting the important research for a cure for breast cancer are things the Albany chapter of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer focuses on year-round,” said Cardona’s Co-Owner and Executive Chef Robert Cardona, Jr. “Their annual walk is an important fundraiser in the Capital Region and Cardona’s wants to support their mission and give the local community an opportunity to get involved as well. Every “Chicken Cordon Pink” sandwich sold at all market locations throughout October helps benefit those affected by breast cancer and we’re honored to contribute to this cause. Our homemade chicken cutlet subs are a favorite menu item among our customers. We’re excited about this unique recipe and anticipate it being a crowd-pleasing specialty sandwich launch.”

“We are grateful to Cardona’s for spearheading this sandwich fundraiser in support of our work,” said American Cancer Society Associate Director for Development Cynthia Claravall. “When our local businesses and communities embrace our mission to end breast cancer as we know it for everyone, we all reap the benefits and further our efforts to end breast cancer.”

The 31st annual Making Strides Albany walk will take place on Sunday, Oct. 18 at Washington Park in Downtown Albany. The event begins at 10 a.m., with the walk set to step off at noon. More than 13,000 participants are expected.
