CAPITAL REGION COMPANIES INVITED TO COMPETE IN INAUGURAL 3-ON-3 MAAC CORPORATE BASKETBALL CHALLENGE

 

Participating corporate teams will compete for the chance to play on the Times Union Center court during the 2018 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships

Team entry includes premium tickets to the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships and to Hannaford MAAC-n-Cheese Fest

ALBANY, NY; – Capital Region businesses are invited to take part in MAAC Madness during the inaugural 3-on-3 MAAC Corporate Basketball Challenge, a tournament-style competition in which local companies will display their hoops prowess in celebration of the return of the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships to downtown Albany.

The 3-on-3 MAAC Corporate Basketball Challenge will feature 16 teams each representing local companies and organizations. The tournament will be run and administered by the Capital District YMCA which will host the preliminary rounds. The remaining four teams will go head-to-head in the semi-final round during the annual Hannaford MAAC-n-Cheese Fest on Friday, March 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Albany Capital Center.

The top two teams will take center court during the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center.

The 3-on-3 MAAC Corporate Basketball Challenge will add another element of excitement to the popular basketball tournament, featuring Canisius, Fairfield, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Monmouth, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Rider, St. Peter’s, and Siena College, which will take place March 1 through 5 at the Times Union Center.

“The MAAC tournament is always an exciting experience and has often created lasting memories for area basketball fans,” said David Brown, president and CEO of the Capital District YMCA. “The 3-on-3 MAAC Corporate Basketball Challenge is a tremendous opportunity for Capital Region businesses to get into the action and compete for their own version of March glory. The Capital District YMCA is pleased to administer this tournament as a showcase for how we help adults, families and children enjoy physical activities and sports all year long.”

Each participating 3-on-3 MAAC Corporate Basketball Challenge team will receive premium seating to the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships; tasting tickets to the Hannaford MAAC-n-Cheese Fest; and commemorative t-shirts. The final four teams will each receive a special championship trophy.

The entry fee for each participating team is $750. Each team can consist of up to four players and all participants must be 18 years or older.

The registration deadline is Wednesday, January 31 or until the 16-team limit has been reached. The roster will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
