BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF BRANDON VOLUNTEER RECOGNIZED

Boys and Girls Club of Brandon volunteer selected as Hannaford Health Hero

Brandon resident recognized for commitment to promoting healthy eating for area youth

BRANDON, Vermont – A volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of Brandon has been selected by Hannaford Supermarkets as a Hannaford Health Hero for her dedication to ensuring access to nutritious meals for local youth.

Christy Gahagan, 48, of Brandon, conceptualized the meal program at the Boys and Girls Club of Brandon, which provides healthy, home-cooked meals to club members each day of the school year. Gahagan worked to secure donations of healthy, nutritious food items in order to implement the meal program at the Brandon branch.

Gahagan’s recognition is the second in a series of awards from Hannaford Supermarkets through the Hannaford Health Hero program in Vermont, which honors the work of volunteers from non-profit organizations who inspire others within the community to make healthy lifestyle choices. Four honorees from Vermont-based registered 501(c)(3) organizations will be announced in 2013.

“At Hannaford, we strongly believe in promoting health and wellness within the communities we serve,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Molly Tarleton. “We are thrilled to honor Christy as a Hannaford Health Hero and commend the Boys and Girls Club of Brandon for its commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles for Vermont residents.”

In recognition of the organization’s commitment to health and wellness, the Boys and Girls Club of Brandon will receive a $250 Hannaford gift card. Gahagan will also receive a $50 Hannaford gift card.

Gahagan was nominated by Larry Bayle, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Brandon, which offers a variety of programs and services designed to promote and enhance the development of children by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.

The Hannaford Health Hero initiative was first launched in Massachusetts in 2012. For more information about the Hannaford Health Hero program, please visit www.hannafordhealthhero.com.
