The Wesley Community, a 37-acre senior living campus with more than 700 residents in Saratoga Springs, recently announced the first graduates of a new hybrid certified nursing assistant (CNA) training program.
Seven graduates recently passed the New York State CNA exam and are already on the job at Wesley Health Care Center. The paid hybrid training program is just three weeks long and includes two weeks onsite to complete clinical, skill practice and skill-testing hours. Wesley’s traditional paid CNA training program runs for six weeks and offers certification upon completion to all successful participants.
“We are very proud of the graduates of this first hybrid CNA training session,” said The Wesley Community Director of Education Patricia Beattie, MSN-Ed, RN. “The course moves at a rapid pace and requires meticulous focus on the part of the students. We are confident these new CNAs will embrace their important roles here at Wesley with compassion and diligence. The ongoing need for nursing caregivers cannot be overstated. We are excited to offer this new Hybrid CNA Training Program to expand opportunities and meet the ongoing demand.”
Due to shortened class time of the hybrid CNA program, graduates are each assigned a mentor and undergo an extended orientation period to become familiar with the residents who they will assist with activities of daily living. A success coach is assigned and conducts weekly meetings during a 16-day orientation. Graduates receive their own assignments following orientation.
CNAs provide vital support to nurses in assisting with the complex tasks of patient care. Classroom training and on-the-job experience offer students the opportunity to learn how to apply key healthcare knowledge to long-term care. Daily responsibilities include maintaining the comfort and safety of patients and delivering direct care through bathing, feeding and grooming.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have earned a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Full attendance is required. Upon successful completion of the training program, participants will be offered full- or part-time employment at Wesley, depending on availability.
