HANNAFORD AND SIENA TO HOST FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT REGIONAL FOOD BANK

Fans who bring three non-perishable food items to the Siena men’s basketball game on Friday, January 24 will receive two free tickets to a future game

ALBANY, N.Y. – Hannaford Supermarkets and Siena Athletics will team up to support hunger relief efforts with a food drive when the Saints host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Marist College at the Times Union Center on Friday, January 24. The food drive will get underway at 6 p.m. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. The collection will take place on the Times Union Center concourse outside sections 104 and 105. Volunteers will accept donations through the start of the second half of the contest.

Fans who donate at least three non-perishable items will receive a voucher for two free tickets to select future Siena men’s basketball home games during the 2019-20 regular season. The voucher may be redeemed for tickets at the Times Union Center Box Office.

The food drive marks the fourth annual partnership between Hannaford Supermarkets and Siena Athletics. Last year’s effort generated approximately 1,460 pounds of food for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York – marking a record collection for the hunger relief agency at a Siena sporting event.

“Hannaford is committed to fighting hunger and we are pleased to once again partner with Siena Athletics on this important initiative. We hope our efforts will help the Regional Food Bank provide for families well into the New Year,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Brian Fabre. “We encourage fans to join us for a night of great college basketball action while supporting an organization vital to the health of our community.”

In addition to the food drive, the January 24 contest against Siena and Marist is the annual Gold Rush Game, which invites fans to wear gold in support of the Saints’ green and gold colors.

“The generosity shown by our fans during this food drive grows every year and we hope the community will turn out in great numbers once again to help support this worthwhile cause. We also encourage our fans to show their Siena pride by wearing gold to this game in celebration of our annual Gold Rush,” said Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “We are thrilled to partner with Hannaford to reward fans who donate to the Food Bank with a pair of tickets to a future men’s home game during an exciting season of basketball for the Saints.”

The food drive coincides with a critical time of need for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, which traditionally experiences a significant decrease in donations following the generosity of the holiday season.

“We love working on this food drive with two of our favorite partners – Siena College and Hannaford. We view it as an opportunity to raise food, money, and awareness about the Regional Food Bank at a time of year when less attention is paid to the issue of hunger. We look forward to meeting many generous Siena fans and collecting a lot of food and money to help feed our hungry neighbors during the winter months,” said Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York Executive Director Mark Quandt.

The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that collects donated food from the food industry and distributes it to nearly 1,000 charitable agencies feeding the hungry in 23 counties of northeastern New York.  The food provided by the Regional Food Bank helps to feed over 40,000 people each week. The Regional Food Bank is a member of Feeding America. The organization is supported by foundations, private contributions and fundraising events.
