Stuyvesant Plaza, the Capital Region’s premier open-air retail destination, will celebrate the grand reopening of The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza on Independent Book Store Day, Saturday, April 25.
The occasion marks The Book House’s return to its original location between Sur La Table and Athleta, where it first opened nearly four decades ago, and coincides with its 50th anniversary.
The day-long festivities will feature activities for all ages, including:
- Face painting between 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
- Author meet-and-greets with Michael Burns (“Nervous Rex”) at 11 a.m., followed by T. Kira Madden (“Whidbey”) and Che Yeun (“Tailbone”) from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
- Light bites and refreshments will be served throughout the day
Adding to the fun, avid and casual readers alike can go on a “blind date with a book,” receiving a free mystery title with any $10 purchase. One lucky, discerning guest who uncovers the hidden Golden Ticket will take home 12 audiobooks from Libro.fm.

The Book House first opened its doors at Stuyvesant Plaza in 1975. A popular destination since that time, the shop carries a variety of genres in hardcover and paperback that appeal to readers with diverse interests, and routinely conducts book-signings, kids’ activities and seasonal events.
