The Adirondack Thunder will once again go on the power play this holiday season to support Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, one of the largest private social service agencies in the region that assists those in need with food, clothing and shelter and other basic necessities.
Catholic Charities will be on-site at Harding Mazzotti Arena to collect new or gently used winter clothing items during the team’s home contest on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers.
Fans are encouraged to donate jackets, sweaters, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and other outdoor winter apparel to help support Catholic Charities’ mission of assisting the underserved this holiday season. The Adirondack Thunder will donate a large supply of winter hats and blankets to help jumpstart Catholic Charities’ holiday collection drive.
All fans who donate will be entered to win prizes, including New Jersey Devils tickets, Adirondack Thunder merchandise and more. Winners will be drawn during intermission following the second period of the Dec. 12 contest. All fans who donate to Catholic Charities will also receive a free Adirondack Thunder decal.
“We are grateful to the Adirondack Thunder for helping us to further our mission of providing the most vulnerable populations in the region with much-needed assistance as the winter approaches,” said Catholic Charities Chief Executive Officer Sister Betsy Van Deusen. “These opportunities to showcase what we do as a charitable organization are invaluable and we can’t thank the Thunder organization enough for once again hosting us during the holiday season.”
Friday’s game will also feature Catholic Charities’ own Sister Betsy taking part in the ceremonial puck drop prior to the start of the game.
“The charitable work Catholic Charities does to help the underserved population in our communities is a vital and year-long mission. Whenever the Thunder can get involved in supporting their good work through events like this clothing drive, we feel privileged to so,” said Adirondack Thunder President Jeff Mead. “We are proud of our fans and how often they rise to the challenge when we host non-profit organizations in need of donations. The Thunder look forward to going on the power play with Catholic Charities for this winter clothing drive.”
Established in 1917 as a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Albany, Catholic Charities helps an estimated 77,000 people each year across the fourteen local counties that it serves, with the majority of these individuals receiving multiple services. The 501c3 agency offers a wide spectrum of services, from addressing basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter; to more specialized support for the most vulnerable in our communities, including individuals with developmental disabilities, pregnant and parenting teens, the unemployed, victims of domestic violence, and the homeless.
