NYRA INVITES FANS TO TAKE PHOTOS WITH TRAVERS TROPHY TO BENEFIT CAPITAL DISTRICT YMCA

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The New York Racing Association, Inc. will welcome racing fans to get an up-close look at the official trophy of the Travers, the Man O’ War Cup, on Monday, August 31.

Fans can have their photo taken with the Travers trophy at the Community Outreach Booth from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday with a $5 donation to the Capital District YMCA. The Community Outreach Booth is located near the Jockey Silks Room and across from the new Saratoga Walk of Fame.

The opportunity will come two days after the 146th edition of the Grade 1, $1.6 million Travers on Saturday, August 29, which will feature Triple Crown champion American Pharoah competing in front of a sold-out paid crowd of 50,000 fans.

Named for the eponymous legendary thoroughbred and donated by Mrs. Samuel D. Riddle, the Man O’ War Cup was designed by Tiffany & Co. and is inscribed with the names of the winners of the 145 previous editions of the Travers.

Earlier this season, hundreds of fans lined up to have their photo taken with the National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup to benefit the Double H Ranch, a non-profit organization which provides specialized programs and support for children and their families dealing with life-threatening illnesses.

The Community Outreach Booth is designed to provide local non-profit organizations with the chance to generate exposure about their efforts while also providing track visitors with a chance to contribute to meaningful causes.

For each day of the 2015 season, a local not-for-profit organization will have the opportunity to utilize the Community Outreach Booth to interact with the thousands of guests who visit Saratoga Race Course, share information about its mission and host various fundraising initiatives.

The Capital District YMCA is one of the 35 largest YMCA associations in the country and one of the largest membership-based community service organizations in the capital region. The Y is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits, strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y nurtures the potential in children and teens, improves the nation’s health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

The 2015 summer meet at historic Saratoga Race Course continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 7. For more information about Saratoga Race Course, call (518) 584-6200 or log onto www.nyra.com.
