Siena College to tip-off against Fairfield University in second half of Saturday evening doubleheader

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Hannaford Supermarkets will team up to support hunger relief efforts with a “Hannaford Helps Food Drive” on Saturday, March 4 at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY.

The food drive will take place during the men’s quarterfinals session, which begins at 7 p.m. with a match-up between Iona against the winner of Thursday night’s Manhattan-Rider contest; followed by Siena taking on Fairfield at 9:30 p.m.

Fans attending the games are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. The collection will take place on the Times Union Center concourse outside sections 104 and 105.

Fans who donate at least three non-perishable items will receive a voucher for two free tickets to the women’s championship game on Monday, March 6 at 5 p.m. at the Times Union Center. The voucher may be redeemed for tickets at the Times Union Center Box Office.

“Hannaford is committed to fighting hunger within the communities we serve, and we are honored to partner with the MAAC on this initiative,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Brian Fabre. “We encourage fans to join us for a night of great college basketball action on the court while supporting the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.”

“We hope the community will turn out in great numbers to help support this worthwhile cause,” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “We are thrilled to work with Hannaford on this initiative and we hope to continue our partnership in support of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York in the years to come.”

The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that collects donated food from the food industry and distributes it to nearly 1,000 charitable agencies feeding the hungry in 23 counties of northeastern New York.  The food provided by the Regional Food Bank helps to feed over 40,000 people each week. The Regional Food Bank is a member of Feeding America. The organization is supported by foundations, private contributions and fundraising events.

The Hannaford Helps campaign is an extension of the work that local Hannaford stores and distribution centers engage in daily. Hannaford donated more than 23 million pounds of rescued food to Northeast hunger relief in 2016.
