HANNAFORD AND SIENA TO HOST FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT REGIONAL FOOD BANK OF NENY

Fans who bring three non-perishable food items to the Siena men’s basketball game on Saturday, January 5 will receive two free tickets to a future game

ALBANY, N.Y. – Hannaford Supermarkets and Siena Athletics will team up to support hunger relief efforts with a food drive on Saturday, January 5 when the Saints host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Canisius College at the Times Union Center. The food drive will get underway one hour prior to the start of the game which tips off at 7 p.m.

Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. The collection will take place on the Times Union Center concourse outside sections 104 and 105. Volunteers will accept donations through the start of the second half of the contest.

Fans who donate at least three non-perishable items will receive a voucher for two free tickets to a future Siena men’s basketball 2018-19 regular season home game. The voucher may be redeemed for tickets at the Times Union Center Box Office.

“Hannaford is committed to fighting hunger and we are pleased to once again partner with Siena Athletics on this important initiative. We hope our efforts will help the Food Bank provide for families well into the New Year,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Brian Fabre. “We encourage fans to join us for a night of great college basketball action while supporting an organization vital to the health of our community.”

“We encourage our fans to join us for the start of MAAC play at home this Saturday and to help support hunger relief,” said Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “We are thrilled to partner each year with Hannaford to reward fans who donate to the Food Bank with a pair of tickets to a future men’s home game. This is a great opportunity for those who have yet to see a game in person this season to witness an exciting brand of Siena basketball led by first-year head coach Jamion Christian.”

The food drive coincides with a critical time of need for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, which traditionally experiences a significant decrease in donations following the generosity of the holiday season.

“We are excited to work with Siena Athletics and Hannaford Supermarkets on this collection for the Regional Food Bank. Siena fans are always very generous to the Food Bank and we look forward to meeting them and being part of the night’s activities,” said Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York Executive Director Mark Quandt. “We thank Hannaford and Siena for everything they do throughout the year to assist the Food Bank and the hungry people we serve.”

The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that collects donated food from the food industry and distributes it to nearly 1,000 charitable agencies feeding the hungry in 23 counties of northeastern New York.  The food provided by the Regional Food Bank helps to feed over 40,000 people each week. The Regional Food Bank is a member of Feeding America. The organization is supported by foundations, private contributions and fundraising events.
